I'm Home
By Jen Leo | Permalink |But where is home? The better way to ask is, Where do you live? To which the reply I’m comfortable giving is, My storage unit is in San Francisco. It’s actually in Redwood City, but that response would require too much additional explanation.
So, Susan (I’m staying with her) is forcing me to take a day off. I had previous hopes of having a decompression vacation immediately after the tour, but I spent that on Vegas and Toronto. And I’m glad I did. I’m actually feeling 80%. Maybe more.
But I can’t take a day off. I’ve got a writing group meeting tomorrow night and need to pound out SOMETHING. ANYTHING. The thing that I really want is to have a first person newspaper column about gambling. Not a how-to column. But more about my experiences traveling through it. A hybrid of news, current events, and first hand info as it pertains to different games, casinos, and of course in different towns and countries.
I could do a blog. This kind of writing would really lend itself to a blog. But unless I get to do it for Nick Denton, I don’t think I want a blog for this writing. I want something more formal. Bigger. Go figure, I want to write with the informality of a blog, but I want the title of being a columnist.
So, I’m spending a few minutes of my day off reading some poker blogs. There are TONS, but I think I might start following this one. Love and Casino War. I like his style, and I love the story behind the name. Men trying to impress women. Excellent.
And if this guy teaches me a little bit about Math and Politics in the meantime, all the better. I need it.
So Susan, you can lock me in the house, but you can’t turn the brain off. Now that I’m not driving, the ideas are kicking into fourth gear.
Do you want to meet up?
If I can get someone in the city to put me up, I want to go see J Maarten Troost, author of The Sex Lives of Cannibals, at the InsideOut Travel birthday party.
THURSDAY OCT 14
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

BTW, if you happened to read that article about not voting, they’re wrong. Don’t ask me to explain it, but someone explained it to me, and they just are. His method is oversimplified and wrong.
