Cowboys and Vegas…too good to be true

Do you see why I need a Gambler Girl column?

The National Finals Rodeo is in Las Vegas December 3-13. Randy Travis is playing at the Golden Nugget.

Me, a cowboy, and a craps table. Throw in some ice cream and we’ll call that heaven. Baby, don’t take off your hat — you still haven’t told me the name of your horse.

Actually, I just bought the 2005 Fodor’s Las Vegas guidebook to see what I don’t already know. I enjoyed getting to contribute to Lonely Planet’s Best of Las Vegas so I’m beefing up some Vegas articles to send out and build my name in the Vegas byline world. Believe it or not, I’m even thinking about living there over the summer. The World Series of Poker is going on June 3 - July 15 and I want to cover it. Yeah, I’ve got my pitches ready. Some are out there, and I’m going to keep at it till I get an assignment.

Sean and Chris from BootsnAll are there this very minute. I’m tempted to go over and say hey, but I’ve got too much work to do. Still, I am on the hunt for one of those cheapo casino bus trips. A guy on Amtrak told me they had them out of LA for not much more than $5. Overnight for $30 or less. If any of you have taken one of these, give me a shout. It’ll make for an excellent addition to Cheap Stingy Bastards. And it’d be fun to see what kind of people hop those rides.

Nevermind about the bus junkets. I found them. Well, I found some. Happy now.
