Writing Residencies

So, there are probably a gazillion, or at least a few hundred writing residency programs out there. I’m not talking about grad school, more like retreat places that you either pay/get fellowships for. You know, pretty houses in far away places where you can focus.

The current issue of Poets & Writers has an article on Grants & Awards, including writers residencies, and a submission calendar.

Another great place to research residencies is the Alliance of Artist Communities. Their database holds residencies for a variety of other arts including visual arts, performing arts, design, and more.

Some, like the Hill House Writers Retreat are for one week. Others are for a month, like the Jentel Artist Residency Program.

The MacDowell Colony has several endowed fellowships with stays of up to two months. The one shown in the picture is the The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada.

Have at it! And good luck.
