Around the World in Eight Days
By Jen Leo | Permalink |Though I would love to read eight days worth of Laura on the job at USA Today, a travel journal is cool, too.
She’s using a Blackberry to send in her reports as she hops between New York, Hong Kong, Kowloon, New Delhi, Dubai, Cairo, Paris, London, Reykjavik, and Balitmore.
“Inspired by next month’s 100th anniversary of Jules Verne’s death, I leave at 6 a.m. Monday for a condensed, 21st century version of the travelholic classic Around the World in 80 Days. I’ll be doing it in eight: Eight destinations. Eight destinations in eight time zones, traveling through 24. A total of 19,393 air miles, 354 car miles and 213 train miles. A scheduled time of 44.7 hours on airplanes… in coach.
Bly is looking to find a “quintessential experience” at each of her stops. I hope that in addition to that she finds the unexpected. It’s the uncommon, spontaneous, and unusual travel finds that make our job as the reader a little more fun.
