Healthcare Traveler: Articles & Contest

If you’re a writer who is, has been or aspires to be a "mobile provider", you may find your niche at Healthcare Traveler Magazine.

Healthcare Traveler is the only specialty journal of its kind
written for both veteran healthcare travelers and professionals who are
considering this exciting practice alternative. Readership consists of registered nurses,
physical therapists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists,
pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. Of these disciplines,
nurses constitute the majority of readers.

Feature articles fall into four main categories: Lifestyles, Human Interest, Practice Specialties and Clinical Topics. They also have a Travelogue section that highlights a particular city each month and features "On Assignment" and "Stories from the Road". Examples of stories from their current issue include:

Lucky for those who qualify, the magazine is sponsoring the 2005 Faces & Places Writing Contest [this links to a glossy color PDF with all the details]. Prizes are: digital camera (1st), portable DVD (2nd) and iPod shuffle (3rd). The hitch is, you must be registered with a healthcare travel staffing company. (The magazine has a board of directors that represents these companies.) Submissions of about 1,500 - 2,000 words are being accepted until June 1.

I found it amusing that the offices of a healthcare magazine are located on Philip Morris Drive, but I’d still check them out if you have experience or interest in healthcare travel writing. Although surely not the most glamorous on-the-road job, traveling medical professionals have their stories to tell as well. Here’s one place to share them, so hop to it if you can.
