Story Lead: Best Spas 2006

Mobil just announced their favorite spas.
Mobil Travel Guide’s ‘Best of the Best’ Spas 2006
I’ve only been to some of the ones in Vegas, way down on the four star list. There were only two Five Stars—
The Spa at the Mandarin Oriental New York
Spa Montage at Montage Resort in Laguna Beach
Mobile has a rigorous rating system and it’s pretty cool that they tell us what they’re looking for.
So, now that you have an idea about who is the best. I’m sure you’ll find some ways to build a story around it for a local newspaper in the area of the award-winning spa, or, if you already write for a spa magazine, or travel mag that covers spas—there’s the latest news.
Has anyone been to any of them? I’ve been to some of the Vegas ones.

I was disappointed in Canyon Ranch Spa at the Venetian. The value for the money is not the same as at other comparable spas. I found it to be more of a medical office than a relaxing environment.
Stein Erikson in Park City is comfortable and relaxing with little hidden daybeds to relax on and read a book after a treatment. The setting is spectacular.
The Ritz-Carton in New Orleans was a normal run-of-the-mill spa….fair prices, decent treatments, and an historical setting.
I was recently at the Carneros Inn in Sonoma and treated myself to an olive stone body exfoliant made from crushed olive pits and extra virgin olive oil. My skin never felt so radiant.
I´ve been to the Spa at the Wynn in Vegas and must say that this was one of the best Spas I´ve seen yet. My wife didn´t complain, that comes close to a 5 star rating.

I’ve been to a few of them, mostly in Florida, Vegas and southern California. Some(Canyon Ranch @ Gaylord Palms) I wasn’t as impressed with as Mobil. And there’s a few that I loved that didn’t make the list, even though I rate spas on pretty much the same criteria. I guess it’s all subjective based on the reviewer’s personal experience.
