2007 Lowell Thomas Award Winners

The results are in for the Society of American Travel Writer’s 2007 Lowell Thomas Awards. This year the record high 1,490 entries submitted for categories such as Travel Jourmalist of the Year and Article on Marine Travel were judged by the faculty of the Missouri School of Journalism. Several friends of Written Road won out including Frank Bures at World Hum, who won a silver in the Consumer Oriented for his piece “How to Use a Squat Toilet,” and Rolf Potts who won a bronze in the Personal Comment category for “The Living Museum of Nowhere & Everywhere,” from the Lonely Planet book Tales From Nowhere.

Other notable winners include:
-Travel Journalist of the Year: Gold: Tom Haines, The Boston Globe
-Article on Adventure Travel: Gold: Tim Cahill, “State of Adrenaline,” National Geographic Adventure
-Travel Book: Gold: Stephanie Elizondo Griest, “100 Places Every Woman Should Go,” Travelers’ Tales/Solas House Imprint
