Independent UK Travel-Writing Competition
By Abha | Permalink |I smiled when I read about this competition: the prize is a 7-night trip for two to Kyrgyzstan
They have teamed up with Bradt Travel Guides, known for their travel guides to offbeat places — so I guess it makes sense.
All writers can apply — published or unpublished. In the unpublished writers category there is an opportunity to win a travel-writers course in Granada, Spain — organised by Travelers’ Tales UK.
What you need to do: Write 800 words (max) on the theme “The Heart of the City”. Entries, obviously must contain a strong travel element.
Overall winner prize: Trip to Kyrgyzstan + a 1,200 word feature on their trip will be published in The Independent.
Winner in unpublished writers category: Place in Travelers’ Tales travel-writing course in Granada, Spain.
Judges: Editorial staff of Bradt Travel Guides, Jonathan Lorie of Travellers’ Tales and the travel editor of The Independent on Sunday. The final winners will be selected by Douglas Schatz, managing director of the UK’s leading travel bookshop, Stanfords.
Deadline: Noon (I imagine GMT time) on Friday 16 May, 2008.

Goodluck!
