Folio Mag Webinars on New Media

For freelance writers, it’s important to keep up to date on what’s going on in the publishing industry. Knowing the industry that you are writing for is crucial when pitching and coming up with content and that industry is no longer defined solely by print. Here at Written Road, Tim Shishler has done an excellent job of writing about new media skills — video, podcasting and beyond — that will make you more marketable as a freelance writer.

To stay up to speed on new media in the publishing industry, you might also want to check out the various webinars hosted by Folio Magazine. A magazine that covers all aspects of the publishing industry, Folio is featuring several webinars in the upcoming months all devoted to new media.

Here’s a sampling:
Starting and Growing a Company in the E-Media Age, January 29, 2009 (this one is featuring my own Editor in Chief Stiv J. Wilson of Wend Magazine as one of the speakers)

Newest Techniques for Successful Online Marketing, March 26, 2009

Analyzing Web Development Options, June 25, 2009

Although these are not travel writing specific, they do all touch on issues that freelance travel writers should be well versed in. If you haven’t harnessed the power of social networking, delved into the world of online marketing or started developing online specific content, you probably aren’t marketable in today’s freelance market. So register for the free webinars, grab a pen and paper and start taking notes! You’ll be glad you did.
