Is it Christmas Yet?

I really really want this.

Poker Face: A Girlhood Among Gamblers (Random House, 2003)
by Katherine Lederer

One woman's autobiographical account of how her intellectual family turned into professional gamblers.

The publishers say "An unflinching exploration of trust and betrayal, competition, suspicion, and unconventional familial love, Poker Face is a testament to the human spirit’s inventiveness when faced with unusually difficult odds."

This is fantastic research (and fun reading) for my own gambling stories. When I do my book, I'll get her to write the intro.

Feeling generous? Send it on over...

And yes, for all you wise cracks, I could probably call the publisher and get a review copy. But I'm up to my eyeballs in work and can't promise I'd follow through on it. Hey, I should see if they have it in books on tape, it'd be perfect for the sand tour.

HB! So glad you commented. I thought I was posting about that book for my own amusement. Good luck at your card game tonight. I just learned Texas Hold'em and am looking forward to getting a proper feel for it. I also come from a family full of gamblers. Recreational though, not professional. My Uncle didn't like that I had learned one of his games and jokingly said he wouldn't play with me. We're having a family reunion in Vegas the beginning of November and I can't wait!

OK Jen, I'll call your bluff. Too busy to put in for a review copy? You could have done so in less time than it took to write this blog entry. You need to get over that phobia and just whip out an email or make a phone call! Publicists are happy to oblige on this kind of thing -- it's their job, after all. Tell them about your blog, or your reviews in East Bay Express...

You're absolutely right Rolf. I have plenty of time for making the call to get the free copy. But I don't have time to deliver on the review. As you well know, I'm backed up on reading the free copies and writing the reviews. I've got three in the hopper that I've already asked for and haven't written up. Those were for me, not for assignment.
But those, including Vagabonding, should get their reviews when the new WR.com launches...or shortly thereafter. Soooooooooooonnnnnnn.....
